Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Renewal Course

The AHA PALS Renewal Course is designed to help healthcare providers refresh their skills in recognizing and treating critically ill infants and children. Using a scenario-based, team approach, this course emphasizes pediatric emergency management from the initial response through stabilization and transport, both in-hospital and out-of-hospital.

👥 Intended Audience

This course is for healthcare providers who direct or participate in advanced life support during pediatric emergencies and are seeking to renew their PALS certification.

📌 Topics Covered

• Recognition & treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest

• Systematic pediatric assessment

• Effective respiratory management

• 1- and 2-provider CPR & AED validation for infants and children

• Defibrillation & synchronized cardioversion

• Intraosseous (IO) access & fluid administration

• Effective resuscitation team dynamics

📘 Pre-Class Preparation

• Review the 2020 AHA PALS Provider Manual (print or eBook)

• Complete the AHA PALS Precourse Self-Assessment & Precourse Work (link provided after registration)

• Study cardiac rhythms: VF, VT, PEA, Asystole, Bradycardia, Sinus Tachycardia, SVT

• Review PALS algorithms and pediatric pharmacology

✅ Certification Requirements

• Must hold a current BLS card (or add BLS during registration—see Add-Ons below)

• Must provide a current PALS card

  • If you do not have a valid PALS card, you will be moved to the Initial PALS Course and charged the difference.

• Bring a printed copy of your Precourse Completion Certificate (after assessment, videos, and survey)

  • No printer? Email your certificate to lifesupport@creighton.edu with your class date & time in the subject line

➕ Add-On Options (Recommended)

• BLS (Add-On): Refresh or renew your CPR & AED skills. Covers adult, child, and infant CPR as well as choking response. (Perfect if your BLS is expiring or needed before PALS.)

• ECG & Pharmacology Online Learning (Add-On): Build confidence in rhythm recognition and cardiovascular pharmacology. A great way to strengthen your foundation and prepare for success in PALS.

📜 Certification

Upon successful completion, participants will receive an AHA PALS Renewal eCard, valid for 2 years.
