Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Course - INITIAL
The PALS course equips healthcare professionals with the skills and knowledge to recognize and treat critically ill infants and children in emergency situations. Using a scenario-based, team approach, participants will learn to manage pediatric patients at risk of or experiencing respiratory or cardiac arrest. This course extends beyond initial emergency response, covering patient stabilization and transport phases in both in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.
Course Overview:
This course is designed for healthcare providers who initiate and direct advanced life support during pediatric emergencies. It is suitable for both first-time PALS certification and renewals.
Topics Covered:
- Recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest
- Systematic approach to pediatric assessment
- Effective respiratory management
- 1- and 2-person CPR and AED skills for infants and children
- Defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion
- Intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration
- Resuscitation team dynamics
Course Features:
- Scenario-based, hands-on learning to reinforce skills
- Team-oriented format for practicing critical decision-making and communication
- Certification valid for two years upon successful completion
Pre-Class Preparation:
- Review the PALS Provider Manual.
- Complete Precourse Test & Precourse Work.
- Familiarize yourself with Cardiac Rhythms, including:
- Ventricular Fibrillation, Ventricular Tachycardia, PEA, Asystole, Bradycardia, Sinus Tachycardia, Supraventricular Tachycardia.
- Review Pediatric Algorithms.
- Study Pediatric Pharmacology.
Certification Requirement:
- Currently BLS card.
- Physical copy of the Completion Certificate issued after you have completed the online Precourse Assessment, watched videos and COMPLETED SURVEY.
